Snap-on smile

I have a small gap between my teeth, but can’t afford to close it. Will snap on smile make it look straight?

Destiny B.- Lansing, MI

Destiny,

You have two options for an affordable way to deal with your small gap.  One is Snap-on Smile. It will fit right over your teeth, effectively covering the gap. Almost any dentist can do it. It will not be the gorgeous smile of say porcelain veneers, but they will look decent until you can afford a different treatment.

A second option, depending on how small the gap is, would be to have dental bonding done. It would close your gap, and you wouldn’t have to wear anything over your teeth.

I hope this helps. This blog is brought to you by Oklahoma City Dentist Dr. Don Swearingen.

Snap on smile without teeth

I’ve got four teeth left. Three on the bottom and one top molar. I don’t have a lot of money and wondered if snap on smile would work?

John L. from Joplin, MO

John,

Snap-on Smile needs teeth to anchor it to. With only one tooth on the top, it just wouldn’t work. Regarding the bottom, with the three teeth, it would just put too much stress on those remaining teeth and you would eventually lose them as well.

Even if you had most of your teeth and were a viable candidate, Snap-on Smile is meant as a temporary smile makeover. In that case, you could use it while something more permanent is prepared for your teeth.

My suggestion to you would be to look into dentures, which is about the same price as Snap-on Smile. For a little more money, you could look into mini-implants. They will help anchor your denture.

Snap on smile with missing teeth

March 22, 2012

I’ve only got about four teeth left, and wondered if snap on smile would be a good solution for me?

Joanne B.- Phoenix

Joanne,

Unfortunately, Snap-on Smile would not work in your case. It would just put too much stress on your remaining teeth, putting you at risk for losing all your teeth. You have several other options though.

The best option is to get dental implants. They are permanent and secure. They look and function just like your natural teeth did, and they protect you from facial collapse. The downside is they are the most expensive option. If they are unattainable for you, you can look into partial dentures. With the amount of teeth you have missing, you would need the partial dentures that rest mostly on soft tissue.
